Measuring guide

Measure your fireplace in two minutes

All you need is a tape measure. Decimals or fractions are both fine, to the nearest 1/8″, and we double-check every order's measurements before the door is built.

Tape measure spanning the firebox opening width, metal to metal
1

Measure the width

Inside the opening at the front of the firebox, metal to metal. Raised screw heads on the sides? Measure screw head to screw head.

Tape measure spanning the firebox opening height, lip to lip
2

Measure the height

Inside the opening, metal lip to metal lip.

Top or bottom track in the way? It comes out before an EZ Door installs. Remove it and measure without it.

Photograph your measurements

Snap each measurement with the tape in full view, start to end; we double-check every order against your photos before the door is built. If your model number isn't listed, we'll also ask for the shots below.

  1. Width, twice: across the top of the opening, then across the bottom.
  2. Height, twice: floor to the top of the opening on the left side, then the right.
  3. Openings are rarely perfectly square. We build to the smallest of each pair, so nothing binds.

Quick answers

  • Opening wider at the top than the bottom? Normal. Enter both; we build to the smaller and the door's fit covers the rest.
  • Track or rail in the way? It comes out before an EZ Door installs; remove it and measure without it.
  • Old doors still mounted? Measure the opening behind them, not the old frame.
  • Something odd about your fireplace? Mention it in the order notes; a real person reads every one.
